Engineered for Total Performance

Chevrolet Performance is breaking new ground with the launch of the new Connect & Cruise crate powertrain systems. They're factory-engineered engine-and-transmission combinations that include all the electronic control module, wiring harnesses, and other key components you need with the simplicity of one part number. Our engineers matched the engines and transmissions for optimal performance and durability, so you can wring out all the horsepower from them with total confidence. The specially calibrated controllers are designed for retrofit installation in older vehicles, for easier and quicker installation and operation, without the need for third-party tuning. Each one comes with an installation kit, including flex plates, covers, and other important components to keep typical mid-projects parts chasing to a minimum.

The LS3 is the power behind the Chevy Corvette and Camaro SS. It's rated at 430 hp in the new Crate Powertrain System, offering the lightweight advantage of an aluminum cylinder block, aluminum heads and composite intake system, weighing in at 404 lbs, significantly less than even the storied small-block.

It's backed by the 4L65-E 4-speed overdrive automatic for relaxed highway cruising, with the durability of hardened internal parts and five-pinion gear sets. To find out pricing and availability, click here to find your local Chevrolet Performance dealer.

The Connect-and-Cruise '70 Chevelle

At Chevrolet Performance, it's not enough to simply create the most advanced powertrain system in the aftermarket industry. We put them to work first, and then drop them in the hands of the toughest critics on the planet. That was modus operandi behind one of the hottest projects on display in Las Vegas at the 2011 SEMA Show. That was where Chevrolet Performance pulled the cover from one of the wildest, yet most usable Chevelles ever built - the Connect & Cruise 1970 Chevelle SS, built for Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the AMP Energy/National Guard #88 NASCAR Sprint Cup Chevrolet Impala.

Powered by the 556 horsepower supercharged Chevrolet Performance LSA Connect-and-Cruise crate powertrain system, this Chevelle is designed for today's time-challenged enthusiasts. By sourcing the complete powertrain from the crank snout to the tailshaft from Chevrolet Performance, an enthusiast can get tremendous power and refinement with none of the drawbacks.

This classic Chevy didn't start in a boneyard or dusty garage - it's a bright new body-in-white from the time travelers at Dynacorn Industries International (DII). Sketched by David Ross, Chevrolet's Chief Designer of Special Vehicles, this Chevelle carries his strong sense of Chevy heritage and clear sense of forward direction, similar to his work on the famous "Project X" '57 Chevy and the E-Rod '55 Chevy. It clearly shows both where Chevrolet has been as a brand and it will be going.

Yet, for all the craftsmanship applied by Chevrolet Performance in its construction, this Chevelle isn't designed to languish on a pedestal. Like the mission established for the E-Rod 55 Chevy, this Chevelle is specifically designed to show builders that it's not necessary to have a lot of exotic custom fabrication for a reliable, show-quality street machine.

By keeping the design simple and following basic Chevrolet themes, most parts can be sourced from Chevrolet dealers, Chevrolet Performance, and most well-stocked Chevelle parts vendors. That simplicity lets each builder put their own touches in the build, but still keep the daily reliability and drivability of a new Chevy, albeit a decidedly fast one.

"Over the last hundred years of its history, there have been many icons in the heritage of Chevrolet, but a few of them rise over all the others - the '70 Chevelle is one of them," said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "That car is over 40 years old, and there is probably greater desire to own it than ever. This build just adds to the legend. It's the best of both eras in one vehicle. It's even faster, handles even better, and looks even better than it did on day one."

For Dale Jr., the Chevelle is a very special car. "My father and grandfather loved cars, loved racing, and loved driving. I'd be willing to bet they'd love this car as much as I do. It's fast, handles like it is on rails, and looks awesome."

For someone with the demands and fame of Dale Jr., having a turnkey vehicle is an urgent priority. "Connect & Cruise is something I can really relate to. There's not much time for myself. I don't have a lot of time to work on a car. When it's time to go somewhere, I want to go right now. Connect and Cruise means the car is reliable and ready to go when I am, but it's still a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to putting some miles on it as soon as possible."
